Thank god for volunteers. Many people tended to respond well during times of disaster, showing a willingness to do whatever they could to help their fellows where normally they might want nothing to do with other people. Thanks to everyone's efforts the shelter and infirmary--both of them on either end of the basketball court--had been set up quickly, with mattresses and cots dominating the spaces. All of the medical supplies and equipment that could be salvaged had been brought here, as well as most of the remaining food kits. Mia did what she could to set up and supervise and tend injuries when there were no medical specialists to do it. She hadn't slept more than an hour or two in two days, but she hardly felt tired at all, and at least the busy case kept her from focusing on her grief and terror for Flonne.
