Enforced rest is making me take things slower and have started tackling all those little 'to-do' jobs that get put on the back-burner usually - well they do if you procrastinate like me ( Read more... )

Having just switched to a new computer and being in the process of the hassles that creates, I've finally decided to do what my son Paul has been suggesting for a while: drop my computer-based inbox (Thunderbird at this point, previously Outlook Express) in favor of a Gmail account I'll never have to re-setup, or have to hunt for my accumulated saved mail from the previous inbox. Right now I still am searching for the mail we saved from my previous computer's inbox, some of which is work-related and that I've needed to refer to (except that I haven't located it yet.)

I admit I haven't spent much time tinkering with my Gmail account up to this point, but Paul really likes its ability to organize your saved mail, and of course you'll be able to access it from anywhere. Also, it seems to have a very effective spam filter, better than the Yahoo account I've had for quite a while and which has become fairly reliable over time. And as stated above, you can easily have your Gmail forwarded to another account if you wish.

If you want a Gmail invitation, I have plenty and can send you one.

From what you say this sounds pretty much the ticket - it's certainly the saved mail issue that I need to address since I've been networking as much as I can on placements. I'd be grateful of an invitation (didn't know you needed one!) thankyou. x

As proof of the hassles I'm trying to avoid with this switch to Gmail, could you send me your e-mail address again? It's in my old address book, which I haven't yet located. Then I'll send you the Gmail invitation. :-)

Oh, and good luck with finding those messages - it can be a bit on an upheaval switching computers, no?!

And did the Bend house sale go through okay? Hope so.

The Bend escrow is now set to close tomorrow (last week it was supposed to close last Friday), so I'm beyond holding my breath waiting for it, but there's a deadline involved for the buyer this time so I think it will indeed go through tomorrow. Will let you know.

I went over to Bend Friday, signed all the paperwork, then met at the house with the realtors and buyers. I must say the place doesn't look anything like it did when we lived there, in between owners, relatively empty and with the front yard torn up from excavating for the new power and water lines, and the backyard completely dried out. Even though I first saw the place in August (a year ago), I began to wonder what I'd seen it it in the first place... until I was digging around on my website last night and came across pics I'd taken of the place inside and out, and geez, did it look better then. So at least I knew I hadn't been totally crazy to buy it.

But things move on, and the new owners can do whatever they want with it, and hopefully we can all move forward with our lives and only look back at all this present hassle as a small blip on the larger radar.

Funny how things can look so different when you go back. Fingers crossed for you that it closes asap.
