The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass
"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been
true?"

the press.
--The military is the arm, the reporter the eyes
It's the Military, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of
speech.
--the thing the military miss most is freedom. I know, I was raised military for 18 years. The military is valuable because it protects our FREEDOM. If we do not exercise our freedom the military's sacrifice is in vain. Hence without the poet there is no need for freedom to be protected, and without the military no protection for the poet.
It's the Military, not the politicians that ensures our right to
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
--Politicians suck. As far as our rights to things, don't think the military decides as much as enforces
It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag
--The military serves. SERVES. They do not serve themself. It is their beauty. It is their strength. It is their flaw. They may die for the flag. They may worship it. But they will never understand it as the poet, the reporter, or the politician does. And the abovementioned may not like the military. That is what is great. I may hate the military. That is what they fight for. Idiots like me who refuse to love the sacrifice that protects hatred against them. Yet without such radical opinions, their war would be complicated child's play. The military serves me when I do not want to be served. I serve the military when they will not be served. Sometimes the military protects poets when they would rather die. Sometimes poets give life to the military when they would rather deny. Sorry to pontificate. Just tired of such simple, cool sounding poems. Greg

I guess I hadn't really looked into it so much. Like you said, I liked that it was a "cool-sounding" poem.
I work as a civilian for the Army and have a close friend in Iraq right now..so I might be a little more emotional over poems like these than others.. :)
