Christmas calendar, Day 8.
Shinya doesn’t look at the door.
He hears it, though, hears Die entering the apartment, hears his muffled words for Miyu, the small sound his jacket makes when it slides off of his body; his shoes thumb slightly against the floor when he makes his way to Shinya, and yet Shinya doesn’t turn to look.
There are no words offered to him when the sofa shifts under an added weight, just comfortable silence for words, they are often unnecessary and only good for creating misunderstandings, for ruining the atmosphere.
But not this time.
Shinya finds Die’s hand on his knee, just a light touch, a gentle squeeze, and everything stills. He gives a small, absent-minded smile and glances out of the window: there is a fine layer of frost (snow, corrects his mind hopefully) covering everything, the once naked trees sparkling in the daylight; all is clear, crisp, bright, and Shinya knows that should he go outside he’d be able to physically see his own breathing steaming in front of and around him.
Still, he doesn’t move.
He waits.
“Say, Die,” he finally whispers, “have you ever touched heaven?”
He’s not looking for an answer, and Die provides him with none.
Shinya thinks that Die might know him too well by now.
Somehow, the thought doesn’t freak him out like it used to.
Maybe he’s gotten comfortable enough around the other, Shinya isn’t sure, but whatever it is, he knows Die loves it.
Loves him.
A kiss is placed on his cheek and he smiles, turns around - finally - and faces Die.
And kisses him on the lips.
