RL: Things got a little steamy this weekend...

Aug 21, 2011 19:16

I put my back out late last week and spent most of this week on an exciting cocktail of painkillers and muscle relaxants, so if you had any strange comments from me or didn't get any strange comments when you were expecting some, that is probably why.

By yesterday I'd recovered enough to visit the Greatest Steampunk Exhibition at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum, which was full of incredible and awe-inspiring machines (the usual exhibits), and astounding never-happened steam inventions (the Steampunk collection).

I took part in a Tea Duel, very nearly winning my round but unfortunately I hesitated a moment too long after my opponent's biscuit disintegrated resulting in my own ammunition splattering biscuit shrapnel onto my hands and trousers. The hand biscuit-splode was easily disposed of, but the trousers still carry the scars to this day.

And in a related steampunky note with especial reference to the renewed season of Doctor Who being upon us, I'd like to share with you all my love of this Tardis corset.

Also, as jnicholson would say, "There was a slight bookstore today." Or, to paraphrase The Clash, "I fought the bookstore and the bookstore won." I now have all of Gail Carriger's 'Parasol Protectorate' series, one of the Calvin & Hobbes collections we were missing, Brian Ruckley's 'Edinburgh Dead', the Micheal Moorcock Doctor Who novelisation (how did I not know this existed?), and Ben Aaronovitch's 'Moon Over Soho' (how did I not know this was out yet? I've been waiting for it!).
