Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand
My hometown was hit by a mag 7.9 earthquake this evening.

So far there are no reports of any major injuries, but the mobile phone networks are failing under the strain. Most of our family are known to be safe, except for one of K's brothers whom we haven't been able to contact, and I'm unable to connect with my oldest friend to find out if he and his family are all well. I'm certain they'll all be fine, but I'll feel better once I can be sure.
I had been about to make a post about childhood memories, in which this city loomed large. It can wait a bit.
Edit: Now there's apparently looting going on in the city centre. :-(
