Empire Love

I love love LOVE being up north. I was ready to leave Chicago by the time my four day visit there ended. Seeing everyone was great, but seriously, there' sonly so much bickering you can take before your mind just implodes.

Anyhoo, we're up here now. Had a beautiful 4th; smooth uneventful plane trip to Traverse City and a nice afternoon at the new playgrond in Empire. Doob totally dug it. It's something Dan's parents were instrumental in getting built (they raised funds and brought it to th evillage board for consideration) and it has everything: rock climbing walls, four steep and awesome slides, catwalks, whirligig, towers, steering wheels, diggers, a climbing dome, etc etc. I'll post pictures when I figure out how to get them off my camera.

Last night we just went right down to the beach and watched the unofficial fireworks display that beachgoers put on for our amusement. It was about as good as anything I"d ever seen (barring the really big city ones, like Chicago or hte Boston Pops or something.) My writers brain always likes to sit there and come up with descriptive names for the fireworks, so we had Tadpoles, Shooting Stars, Blazers, Fire Fountains, Scatter Jets, Squealers, Fireflies, Popcorn, Double Pops and plenty of traditional Fireflowers. No Champagne though, which are my favorite.

It was perfect. No need to drive all the way up to Leelenau, that's for sure. At least not till the kids are much bigger.

So, some cute Doob stories. He was an angel on the plane, looking out the window while we were over Lake Michigan and exclaiming "Momma, look, I see two skies! One above us, and one way down there!" For some reason he's obsessed with being a baby now, so he'll cry, "Aweah, a weya, wah," and I have to pick him up and say "Oh, my little baby is so sad. Poor little baby."

When Geneva's godmother came for lunch on Tuesday Doob was running around, hugging her daughter, kissing Geneva, marching around and playing the flute, and she looked at me and said, "Is he very excited today?" I laughed and said, "No, he's just got a lot of energy."

I had told him we were going to take a train ride and see Geneva's godmother in the city, but then she came up to us, so Doob was very dissappointed about missing the train. I gave him two choices: go on a train ride with mommy or go to the pool with Nunnu. He picked train ride, so my dad and I took the kids from Libertyville to Glenview, played at a playground right there, and then took the train back. Doob loved sitting up on the upper level and climbing on board all by himself.

Today we're planning a long walk and some time at the beach or the pool. I'm going to finegle the pool because it'll be warmer, but relaly, you can't go wrong up here.

Ah, Up North. No place like it.

baby love, empire, kaden
