Just a quick post from me before bed. Had the big 30th birthday party yesterday at my mom's and it went really well. Everyone seemed to get along nicely and I made the rounds a couple times and got to talk to everyone at least a little bit. Geneva was a big hit, of course. I have pictures, but not on my own camera, so it might take me a while to collect and post them.

Around 70 people came (20 of them kids) but because my mom was in charge everything flowed really smoothly and there was plenty of food.

She served:

roast beef
lemon chicken
smoked salmon
spinach lasagna
veggie pasta salad
broccoli and carrots
green beans
tomato and cucumber salad
scalloped potatoes
homemade whole wheat bread
olive bread

and for dessert we had

a Daisan cake
a Geneva cake
brownies
fudge brownies with pecans
cupcakes
pumpkin pie
donut holes
fresh fruit
apple cake

It was all really good. I said no gifts but everyone brought something anyway, and I now have a list three pages long of thank you notes to write. :) We got three anonymous gifts. I hope I can figure out who gave them to us, especially this one big Bag O Stuff with a really pretty wind chime and tons of things for Geneva in there.

In all it went really well and I had a great time. I never have parties; I think the last birthday party I had was my Sweet 16, and here's a funny story that tells you a lot about who I am and who my sister is. My Sweet 16 was me and 7 of my girl friends sitting around the living room eating chips and talking about boys and stuff. We also taught each other dance moves, like the hustle. The girls slept over and we had pancakes for breakfast in the morning.

My sister's sweet 16? Was a battle of the bands in my parents' back yard with about 500 people. She insists she knew everyone at the party, but I don't see how that's possible. She says she made a few phone calls to some key people letting them know about the party, and then this crowd just descended upon the house, set up the equipment, and proceeded to rock the neighborhood for miles. People came who heard the music from the main road and followed it to the party. My parents barricaded themselves in the house and watched through the windows.

*grin* She's always been the popular party animal. I've always been the nerd.

family, friends
