Why are they coming?!!

I just got a call from my mother about an hour ago. Now this is pretty odd from the start, because my mother never calls me unless she wants something. Apparently she decided to inform me that she was coming to town with Sleazeball in the next couple days and is going to be around for an entire week and literally requested I show her around the ( Read more... )

You should be kinder to your mother. She put forth a lot of effort and other things to raise you, so it should be fine for you to give up some time to see her. She probably missed you, and that's why she wanted to come down...

I'm sorry to be so impolite, but it's not very fair to your mother to treat her that way...

...I'm sorry to say this but...you don't know anything about my childhood...

So how do you know she put so much effort, hmm? Last I remembered, my father was literally raising me while she sat around doing nothing.

I don't know what your childhood was like, no, but your mother is still your mother and you should show respect to her for that reason. There are much worse things than sitting around for mothers to do, and that's her crime, not yours.

You don't have to respect her more than you respect your father... You don't even have to give her your love. But if you don't at least give her your respect, you're shaming her for having had you in the first place.

That's how I feel about it, anyway... You shouldn't do anything that you will regret someday, when there's no more chance for you to say you're sorry.

Pearl. I think that's quite enough. Consider yourself excused from this conversation.

My apologies, Ms. Tiala. My daughter's relationship with her own mother was very complicated, and filial piety is a conviction she holds close to her heart. She doesn't mean anything by it, she just hasn't learned how to approach strangers yet.
