David Hicks, an Australian citizen captured in Afghanistan by a Northern Alliance Warlord and sold to the US Special Forces for $1000 during the invasion of Afghanistan has been held in Guantanamo Bay since December 2001 without charge, tortured constantly, sexually assaulted, denied conditions required by law under the Geneva Convention, left in a

60 million people died in world war 2 to have fasciasts removed from power who were prepared to use any means at their disposal to do whatever they wanted. The Geneva Convention was established to ensure we had a minimum standard in how we, as civilised humans should conduct ourselves.
If someone has committed a crime, they should go before a court of law and be judged. When you start acting like animals you are as bad as the people that you think are evil.
Seriously, why should have forefathers bothered to fight and die and spill their blood to fight for our rights when we are just going to spit in their face, at the sacrifices they made.
If we do not care about how we conduct ourselves then we should have left Hitler in power. You know, you do not care how he is treated, if he has a fair trial, you are happy for him to be tortured day after day, year after year. What if it was your father in there, what if he was wrongfully accused? Would you care then? Would you want him to have a chance in a court to prove his innocense?

Sorry if this sounds harsh but the basic fact was he was busted at a terrorist training camp and after all the death that terrorists have done to the world I don’t care if he is left to rot in hell

He wasn't busted at a terrorist training camp, he was taken when he was leaving Afghanistan. He has not been proven in a court of law that he is a terrorist, in Australia, in the USA and everywhere else in the civilised world you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I find Bush to be evil because he violates human rights laws as did other fasciasts who try and make you believe the end justifies the means. Hitler believed he was doing the right thing, that the end justified the means. It is why we have these human rights laws, because the end does not justify the means.
He set up illegal detention centers to attempt to bypass loopholes in the law and to try and avoid prosecusion under the Geneva Convention. He authorised the use of torture and other inhumane and cruel treatment of prisoners in violation of human rights laws against people not having been tried or proven guilty of any crime in a court of law.
He set up detention centers in Guatanamo Bay intentionally to stop people being protected by the US Laws. He also set up hidden detention centers and authorised the use of torture by the CIA.
The US Supreme Court has recently ruled that these centers are illegal and has ruled that any people detained were protected by the Geneva Convention and anyone found guilty of breaking these laws could be prosecuted as a war criminal.
America's definition of an “unlawful enemy combatant”, which is what he is being held based on, is in violation of the Geneva Convetion which defines a combatant as someone who engages in hostilities and is subject to attack. He was not involved in any hostilies, he was caught in a civilian transportation convey attempting to leave Afghanistan.
I know everyone wants to bring Terrorists to justice, but THEY are evil, not US. THEY break the laws, not US. WE are the good guys. WE live by laws and obey them, it gives us the high moral ground. It gives us the right to bring them to justice.
Bush is not playing by any laws other than his own and he has sucked in the dupes in Blair and Howard like Bin Laden has sucked in dupes all over the world to break the human rights laws. If we lower oursevles to their standard then we are no better than they are.
We are losing the war on terror because we are lowering ourselves to their standards.

If there was not an Aussie held there would you still be interested in this though? After all there are lots of people in the same boat as himself

I do not care if there were no Australians detained. We just can't pick and choose who gets justice and who does not, the system does not work that way.
But, I just am a realist.
I know Bin Laden is evil but he has always been evil, he has been trained by the US to do evil things, it was okay for him to be a terrorist while he was performing acts of terror on the Russians. Now that the weapon has backfired he is evil in the eyes of the US. Who has taken responsibility for training and arming him and people like him? Who has been held accountable? Nobody.
Hussein is evil and has always been evil, yet it was billions of dollars of US and European aid and military equipment that kept him in power, allowed him to fight his war against Iran which killed millions of people because they wanted him to claim rich Iranian oil reserves. The US also said they would not get involved if Iraq annexed Kuwait, which they claimed was a part of Iraq and only existed due to recent British involvement in the region.
It was only because Thatcher wanted to keep her oil reserves in pro-British hands and the fact Hussein wanted to cut oil production worldwide to rise the price of oil to repay his war debts during the Iran war that anyone gave a shit that he was an evil person.
Reality is nobody cared that he was a butcher, people cared because oil was involved. We have no agenda to remove guys 1000x worse than Hussein in Africa who are slaughtering millions of people. No oil in Africa.
I am just not a dupe and know to read between the lines of the propaganda we spew out there. Accord to you, the French freedom fighters in WW2 are terrorists, they did much the same thing hitting military and civilian targets of those they considered were oppressing them.
As long as we interfere with foreign regions we will always be vulnerable to resistance to our involvement. It is as simple as that. Interfering and the cost associated with it is worthwhile if the cause is just. Ie, stopping Hitler in WW2. Our cause at present is not just, it is just coincidence that we have removed an evil person from power.
We interfer, we support an Israeli government that commits attrocious crimes in Palestine and in return they commit attrocious crimes against Israel. If the majority of the Arab nations were pro-West and there were no fundamental muslims in power that were anti-West nobody would give a crap about Israel or if they got run out by a coalition of arab nations again.
If we had an alternative to fossil fuel we would wipe our hands clean of any responsibility and leave them to fend for themselves, like we turn a blind eye to the attrocities in Africa.
It is really quite simple, if we do do not have the stomach for civilian or military casualties, do not get involved. We are just making too many compromises, and ignoring our own laws is far too much of a compromise.
