What Can I Do?

Title: What Can I Do?
Pairing: Sungjin x Wonpil
Rating: Trying so hard to be fluff idk
Notes: You knew this is bound to happen after DAY6's What Can I Do MV

Wonpil thought it happens only in romance novels and movies; he never believed the melodramatic descriptions of time slowing down or sudden thumping of the heart. Heck, he doesn't even believe in love at first sight-for how can anyone fall by just seeing the face? He always regard personality and attitude as the number one reason for liking someone. Yet as he sat there and this stranger entered the glass door, the most unbelievable thing happened-the world stopped around him and his heart hammered in his chest, so loud he knew the other person must have heard it.

The stranger's searching eyes were on him, lips moving, hands gesturing, until Wonpil realized he was talking to him. "What?"

Donned in his checkered blue button down tucked into black pants and clutching a letter-size file case, the stranger smiled and repeated himself patiently. "I was asking if this is the office of Mr Kang."

"Oh, um," Wonpil stumbled around the words despite knowing the right answer. "Y-yes, um, yeah but he, uh, said we must wait h-here," he explained, patting the space in the couch beside him awkwardly. He scolded himself mentally right away for the stupid motion.

If the stranger thought that, he didn't make it so obvious. Giving another toothy grin, he sat beside Wonpil, laying the file case flat upon his lap. Wonpil unconsciously hugged his backpack tighter, all tensed up and staring at the guy.

"So, uh," the stranger began, seemingly weirded out by Wonpil, "You're also an applicant?"

"Y-yeah."

"I hope not for the same position I'm applying for?" the guy said. "I'm here for the writer job. You?"

"No, I'm here for the, um, graphic designer position."

"Oh, okay..."

Feeling the need to say something, Wonpil asked, "This is... not your first job, I suppose?"

"I really look old, right?"

Wonpil shook his head hastily, "I-I don't mean that!"

"I know; just kidding," the stranger laughed. "What about you?"

"I'm a, uh, fresh graduate," Wonpil replied.

"Oh, wow. Good luck!"

"Good luck to us," Wonpil said, mustering a smile (though he probably just looked like he's having a toothache, he thought).

"Mr Park Sungjin?" The HR assistant (who is perhaps the owner the deepest voice ever) called and the stranger stood up promptly. Wonpil did not hear the rest of the assistant's sentence as he watched the guy-Park Sungjin-nod, smile, and enter the HR manager's office, slipping a small wave directed at him.

Wonpil's heart literally did a backflip as the door closed.

---

It took another month before Wonpil was called back to the office to start. His predecessor, the HR manager explained, had to finish a big project first before leaving for good. "It's a relief that you did not apply for other companies despite the long wait," Mr Kang said. Little did he know Wonpil rejected every single offer after the initial interview in this PR company. "Yeah," Wonpil affirmed with a shy nod.

"So, shall I introduce you to the staff?"

The HR manager ushered Wonpil to the work stations outside his office. With a gentle hand on his back, Mr Kang spoke to the room at large and everyone looked up from his task.

"Everyone, this is Kim Wonpil, our new graphic designer..."

Wonpil was barely listening as he scanned the room desperately. Surely he didn't ignore all those job offers for nothing? He basically jeopardized his own future for a seemingly petty reason. It had been a big risk and he was stupid, he knows it, but what can he do?

And there, he saw him: Park Sungjin, waving at him from his work area.
