Summary: “Don’t,” John said taking her hand and gently placing it in his, “I, I kinda like it.”
It was nothing new. They were standing on the balcony, their usual haunt for their conversations. Sometimes they would talk about how their days were going and sometimes they would talk about their lives before Atlantis. Well Elizabeth mainly talked about her. John spoke in bits in pieces, and even if he spoke a little about it, he would quickly change to subject, most likely about flying.
She was curious. The more intrigued and impressed she became by him and his heroic deeds the more she wanted to know. And this night, she finally asked.
“So you never told me about your childhood,” She said.
John’s smile quickly faded. She could see the pain and angst in his eyes.
“I’m so sorry,” Elizabeth quickly responded to the drastic change in mood, so was so focused on mending the situation she didn’t notice her hand unconsciously moving to touch his as a gesture of comfort, “you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
When her hand touched his, she snapped back into consciousness. She knew she had been fighting feelings she shouldn’t be having towards her friend and military leader of this expedition. Even if it was a simple gesture as touching his hand for comfort, the fact she was feeling…his skin beneath her fingers wasn’t helping. She quickly lifted her hand off his as if she was moving her hand away from a hot stove.
“Don’t,” John said taking her hand and gently placing it in his, “I, I kinda like it.”
He gently squeezed her hand in reassurance. Elizabeth looked into his eyes and saw a sense of peace in his eyes, and suddenly it wasn’t awkward. With her hand in his own it fit perfectly.
