She stands on the balcony, her face turned toward the sun, hair blowing gently in the breeze. Her ears fill with the sounds of waves breaking against the sides of the building and she sighs contentedly. Standing out here always took her back to summer vacations at the shore. Being young and carefree, frolicking in the waves while her parents sat back, keeping a close eye on her but giving her the space she needed to run and play.
She'd had her first big romance during one of those summer trips. Her first kiss. Her first heartbreak.
The sounds and smells of the water had always calmed and soothed her. She was grateful that she still had that now that she was leading an exploration in a galaxy far from home. No matter what this expedition threw at her, she knew as long as she had this balcony to go to, they'd get through it all right.
All she needed was the sound and smell of the surf.
