Summary: Federico loves his younger brother.
When Ezio opens his eyes, Federico is beaming down at him, bright grin in place. “Well, fratello mio, are you planning on remaining in bed all day?”
Ezio blinks at him, momentarily disoriented, then accepts his brother’s offered hand, sitting up despite his muscles’ protest at the movement. “I hadn’t planned on it, no. But it’s preferable to anything you’re going to suggest.” He picks the words carefully, eyeing Federico with wary.
“You don’t trust that what I want to show you isn’t worthwhile?”
“Federico - “
“Come, Petruccio wants to thank you for the feathers.”
It would be easy. So very easy to continue to hold onto his older brother’s hand, to follow him out of the room and into the bright beyond where his father and younger brother are both waiting. But not yet. “What about vengeance, Federico? What about those who remain, who are responsible?”
His brother rolls his eyes, squeezing his hand. “You think we care about all of that? It won’t bring us back, fratello.”
“No, but - ”
“Come. Come!” The words are accompanied by a sharp tug on his arm, but Ezio resists.
“Wait for me, Federico. I will be there soon enough.”
The smile fades from his brother’s face only just slightly faster than Federico himself disappears into nothingness.
“Soon.”
