Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1
Faith is 1) being sure of what we hope for. And what do we hope for?:
1. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2)
Above all, I believe our hope is in the glory of God. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17) God's glory is the support for every good thing. Every loving act. Every warm embrace. All of beautiful creation. Every honorable deed. Etc. Everything right and perfect displays His glory, and in this we put our hope: God is making everything right and perfect for our good and for His glory. His goodness to us reveals His character and glorifies Him. Therefor, He is glorified in working for our good. He is eternally glorified, and is working eternally for our good. When we hope for His glory, we are sure of that. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27).
2. But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. (Galatians 5:5)
The second thing I believe we hope for after the glory of God is the Spirit of righteousness for ourselves. Christ in us, the hope of glory. Just as God is working for our good in every circumstance, He is also working to sanctify us. In fact, that is our greatest good, that we ourselves are good. Whether it takes...pain or pleasure, poverty or prosperity, trials or triumphs, He is making us good, like Himself. In every circumstance, our hope is in His sanctifying work in our souls. Christ in us, revealing Himself through, is our hope of His glory and our goodness.
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (2 Peter 1:3)
And faith is 2) being certain of what we do not see:
We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) If only we could understand how necessary this is for God's glory and our good... If we saw our future of eternal bliss and how everything in this life has been preparing us for that one, would we need trust, hope, or faith? Would we know if we loved God merely for His good gifts or because He is good? For what He gives us or for who He is? Could our devotion be tested?
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4)
Faith without sight is the testing of our faith, and the testing of our faith completes us. But let us rejoice for we know that the day is coming when all that we hoped for will be eternally accomplished and our faith will finally be sight in the face of Jesus Christ!
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (Romans 5:1-5)
