One might easily theorize that any creature that had just spent a year as a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent" would be unfamiliar with human expressions and emotions.
. . . Castiel doubts this theory.
In The Third Man, Castiel makes his first appearance since haring off to Heaven in Swan Song. When pressed by the brothers Winchester, he irritably indicates that his 'people skills' are 'rusty.'
Then Castiel spends the rest of the episode displaying more human expressions in forty-odd minutes than he did in most of S5. So take heart, Cas, at least some of your "people skills" aren't as "rusty" as you think.
"You think I came because you called?"
Cranky!Castiel is cranky.
O RLY!Castiel is unimpressed with Balthazar's story.
Snarky!Castiel is . . . snarky. But still hot.
And, because my mathematical skills are "rusty," have some bonus angel tongue. No one EVER tires of watching that man lick his lips.
