Who: Inoue Miyako and Motomiya Daisuke
When: Jan 31st
Where: Computer room
Miyako walked to the computer lab and sighed, this had been too long a week. First, she missed Iori's tournament, making him mad, then Mantarou yelled at her because he found out what happened at Christmas. She was still trying to understand what happened with Iori when the elevator broke down. She wanted to collapse in her bed in her newly-painted room. She couldn't do that, unfortunately. She still had the computer club to deal with. She sat at a desk and rested her head on the desk, wanting the day to be over.
Daisuke wasn't sure where to begin looking. He didn't keep track of Miyako's whereabouts or classes. Then he remembered something about computers. Prowling through the school halls eventually led Daisuke to the door of the computer clubroom.
Instead of knocking, he barged in, looking for Miyako. "There you are!" He glared at her.
Miyako didn't even raise her head. She recognized that voice. "Go away, Daisuke."
"No. I will not 'go away'," Daisuke stubbornly crossed his arms. "I want to know what possessed you to dump Ken! He's still hurting you know."
He closed the distance between them, until he was right next to her, staring down at her.
"Oh, is that it?" she asked sarcastically. Why was he asking now and not in November when it first happened?
"Yes that's 'it'," he scowled at her. "I thought it was a mutual thing. I want to know what possessed you to do that to Ken!"
Miyako finally sat up and looked at him.
"Look, it was really complicated and I'm not sure if your small brain could understand."
"What my so-called 'small brain' comprehends is that you hurt Ken. I should have known you wouldn't be good for him," he said coolly.
"I didn't realize your opinion mattered in this subject." Miyako gave a slight smile as she stood up and walked closer to Daisuke. She felt betrayed and hurt that she was being confronted now. Just when she didn't need it. Just when things were starting to make sense.
"What, praytell, is so wrong with me?" she added.
"It matters," he said through gritted teeth, "because Ken is my friend. And even after all this time, he's still hurting. And if you ever hurt him again..." He wondered what went on in her head, why she did what she did.
"Wrong? Well, breaking up with Ken, for one thing. What made you do it, Miyako, hm?"
"Well, at the time, I was confused and thought this was the best way to move forward, or as I was convinced by Mimi. It was better to be sure about my feelings than live a lie. Isn't that right, Daisuke?" Miyako crossed her legs with a flair as she sat on the large wooden desk behind her. She adjusted her skirt, pulling it down.
"What ever happened to thinking for yourself?" Daisuke rolled his eyes. "Or do you just follow whatever anyone says, blindly?"
He tried to reign in his mouth. Daisuke knew it was reckless of him but that didn't mean he could help it or stop.
"Oh, and you are one to talk, aren't you? Why, when 'Taichi-sempai' asks you to jump, you don't even bother to wonder how high, you just jump." Miyako's inner voice growled at Daisuke to back off her was liable to see the back of her hand.
"Just shut up!" He yelled. "You don't know what you're talking about! At least I follow Taichi-san for a good reason! And don't change the subject either This isn't about me. It's about the way you treated Ken!"
Miyako flipped her head, feeling some power in the discussion.
"Touchy, touchy. And I thought you were interested in the other Yagami..."
He exploded. "What does that mean?! This isn't about me and Taichi-san. I mean--there is no 'me and Taichi-san'!" Daisuke growled under his breath. "Now what I want to know, is why."
"I told you Daisuke. I told you the reason, will you got off my back and stop attacking me?"
"You were confused? That's why you broke up with him? That's...such a cowardly thing to do."
"It would be better to date him if I wasn't sure if I wanted him and I loved him? It would be better to live a lie? I'm sorry Daisuke, I can't do that. I have the digi-"
Miyako heard a cough from the room. It was the computer club. Damnit, she swore. "Could you begin the meeting, Kiyoshi-san? I need to finish this conversation with my friend." She blushed, wondering how much they had heard.
She dragged Daisuke into the hallway. The computer club had given up on figuring out Miyako. They figured the stress of the entrance exam had gotten to her.
"Thanks, Daisuke, you embarrassed me in front of the computer club."
"I didn't do it on purpose," the goggle boy muttered. "Sorry about that."
He pulled out of her grasp, straightening his shirt for lack of anything better to do. "So that's it? You hurt Ken, the end?"
"What more can I do? He hates me now."
"Well..." Daisuke paused, trailing off. He didn't know if it was true. Actually, he didn't know much of the details at all. He just sort of....put two and two together. Although, he didn't always come up with four in the end...
"I-er...don't know," he mumbled. "Have you tried talking to him lately?"
"I can't. I can't face him right now." Miyako shook her head, she felt the power she had earlier leave, leaving her exposed.
"Then when?" he challenged. "You can't avoid him forever, Miyako." Daisuke studied her. She seemed...lost.
"I can avoid him until the pain goes away and I'm over him. I'm sure he doesn't want to see him right now..." Miyako spoke softly for the next part, "...especially if I start seeing someone."
"That's it?" he incredulously stared at her. Daisuke couldn't believe it. "I never took you for a quitter, Miyako."
"What? You want me to wait indefinitely for him to want me back? He's not going to. I should move on, especially if I know of other guys that are interested." Miyako heard herself and hated it. She hated what she thought. She felt like she was betraying Ken, but she knew if she waited, it would just be more painful.
"Maybe he’s better off then, without you. Since you won’t even fight for him," the soccer player shook his head, disappointed. "I can’t believe you think any guy will treat you better than Ken though."
It was a lost cause. Talking to Miyako. She was blind, refusing to see. He wondered if she even knew what she was talking about anymore.
Miyako was pissed. What right did he have to yell at her? To make her feel more like crap. She was so angry she raised her hand and slapped him hard, leaving a large red mark.
"You're an asshole. Tell Ken if he wants me to make a move, because I'm not going to put myself out there for him anymore unless I have some hope that he wants me back."
Miyako was blind with tears. She walked away to the closest bathroom. She couldn't cry in front of everyone. She needed to be strong.
He raised a hand to his cheek, staring after her retreating figure. She slapped me...She actually *slapped* me. Daisuke could feel his cheek burning from the hit.
He stalked after her, stepping on front and cutting off her route. "What was that for?" he demanded.
"Because you're a jerk. I already feel like crap for what happened, I don't need you to remind that I messed up and lost my first love. Yes, I love Ken which is what makes this hurt so much more."
He froze. That...was probably the last thing he expected her to say at this point. He forgot all about his cheek, which was dully throbbing.
"Prove it then," he quietly challenged. "Don’t just give up."
"Why? He doesn't want me back. Trust me. After he said what he said, he doesn't want me anymore. We should both move on."
Miyako felt so exposed and pulled in opposite directions. Iori gave her an open invitation to date him as soon as she was ready, but she would only be ready if she forgot about Ken. She didn't want to forget him if there was still a chance...
"Did he say anything? Does he want me?" She asked softly, afraid of the answer.
Shit. He really hadn’t thought to ask Ken that, had he? Swallowing, Daisuke forced himself to meet her eyes. "I don’t know, Miyako. I can’t answer that for you," he replied honestly.
He wished he weren’t so hotheaded and recklessly impulsive. It landed him in situations like these. Despite it all though, Daisuke didn’t look away. It would be wrong to, at this point.
Miyako looked away, breaking the eye contact. "Then stop giving me hope and let me move on."
The goggle boy stopped. He didn’t know what to say anymore. He didn’t know when everything had turned and flipped upside down. Simply nodding, Daisuke didn’t say anything this time around.
"Tell Ken...I don't know what...that I love him, that if he tells me, I won't move on....just tell him....I miss him...." Miyako started walking again to the bathroom.
He didn’t try and stop her this time. Standing there in the dim fading light of the afternoon, Daisuke didn’t move for the longest time. Eventually though, he turned and walked away.
