Making Decisions

Today's TinyBuddha article was "Tiny Wisdom: On Fear Based Decisions", which is actually a topic that is very near and dear to me.

Please click on the link above and read Lori Deschene's excellent article before reading the rest of what I write below. I'll wait for you.

No seriously, go read it.

OK, I assume you've read it now. Now, on to my thoughts.

One of my greatest frustrations in life is when I see people making decisions - or failing to make decisions - because of the fear they hold onto like some kind of ironic security blanket. I know what that fear feels like, and I’ve been caught in its grip before, but I decided a long time ago to believe that I can handle anything that comes at me, that I can survive anything that doesn’t outright kill me. I decided then to make the best decision I can with whatever information I have at the time, and move forward in confidence that I can accept and deal with any consequences that may come of it.

A few years ago I had a whiteboard hanging in my apartment. One day, while thinking about this very topic, I wrote on the board a question I left up for a long time as a reminder to myself to dig into my actions and understand my motivations. Now I present that question to you:

“What are you afraid of?”

fear, confidence, decision
