neih juunghmjunnghyi yaamcha a?
ni xibuxihuan dianxin a?
do you like dimsum?
friday was probably one of the most surreal days that i've had in guangzhou thus far. it began with an incredibly large dimsum brunch with andy, jack, joanie, and of course us gzers. at xiguan renjia (dudes, if you come visit me...we're definitely going there), we ate almost every sort of dimsum we possibly could stuff into ourselves. i've provided a list below so that you can drool while you're reading this (and because i have to pay you back, ken, for describing the mountains of pasta you ate to me while i was starving! and also because I have half an hour to waste before i do my yoga:-D)
The list:
chashaobao: sweet pork steamed buns...one of my favorites!
nomiji: sticky rice with bits of mushrooms and meat...i personally like these better from the street vendor near our house
changfen: classic gz dish reminiscent of savory crepes usually stuffed with veggies, pork, beef, or shrimp
shumai: shrimp and pork thingies wrapped in a thin, yellow layer that kind of explode in your mouth
shrimp dumplings: another of my favorites...pretty much self explanatory. have you seen jiaozi? i couldn't eat these for a few months after i saw the movie.
naihuangbao: a sweet white bun filled with a yellow custard. I call luke "naihuangbao" (affectionately, of course...no harm intended)
baozi: duh, baozi! these were smaller and were filled with cabbage and pork
dumplings: of all sorts of varieties...some not easily identifiable, but so delish
doshabao: red bean buns. these were ginormous and were lightly sprinkled with sugar...hot, steamy, and mouthwatering.
spareribs: by the time we ordered these, i couldn't eat them. that must tell you something!
zhou, aka congee: this was some sort of fish congee that was good as far as congees go, but not the best i've had
lobogao: fried "turnip" cake...dipped in some hot sauce, it's one of the best things, ever!
chicken feet: aesthetically unpleasing but sort of fun to gnaw on if you're in the mood.
soooo good...i'm making myself hungry just thinking about it! we went shopping afterwards, but i was much defeated because i couldn't bargain in any of the stores, and that kind of made me sad. actually, it made me REALLY sad. haha:)
then we came home, slept the afternoon away, played badminton, and went out to a nice sushi dinner at a relatively cheap japanese restaurant! it was soo good:), but not good enough to describe here, unfortunately. or at least it doesn't warrant its own journal entry...
