[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Masaru Daimon
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Fandom: Digimon Savers (Digimon Data Squad in the US)
Timeline: The very end of episode 38, after Kurata has been defeated.
History: Here: http://digimon.wikia.com/wiki/Marcus_Damon  and Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Damon

Character Personality: “My Dad’s back is big and warm. When you’re a kid, you can’t out distance your father’s back. But I wanted to reach and get close to it! As close as I could! That’s why… I’ve always done my best!” In only a few sentences Masaru basically spells out most of the cause of his entire outlook on life. When his father left home to explore the Digital World when Masaru was 4 he told him that he was a grown man now, and he was responsible for his mother and baby sister. That simple declaration colors everything he did for the next 10 years of his life.

Masaru is, on the surface, a loud mouthed, hotheaded punk with no respect for others and nothing but a desire to cause as much trouble as possible. But while he can be loud and hotheaded, the rest couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality Masaru is a loyal, devoted young man… even if he doesn’t always go about it the right way. He does have an awful temper and can be very aggressive. But this is simply because he is a very emotionally open person. When Masaru is angry he’s outright enraged. When he’s happy he’s everyone’s friend. When he’s upset he’s a bawling screaming mess. He feels everything to the extreme and with complete honesty. His parents raised him to be honest with himself and others when it came to the important things, and it shows in his occasionally crass but very powerful sense of pride and honor. He can’t abide anyone going for the easy way out, or not acting like ‘a true man’, which really has nothing to do with masculinity and everything to do with doing what you know is right, no matter what the cost. He’s a man of action, not words, often ‘speaking’ through his fists when words take too long or can’t reach someone.

But even with the best intent, he’s not an easy person to get along with. He picks fights for fun (not out of a need to hurt people, but to compare his strength to theirs.), bickers with everyone around him and is overall an annoying teenage boy. He’s extremely competitive, and if defeated tends to sulk and brood like a spoiled brat. He’s not the best at planning by far, and doesn’t think ahead, though he’s not stupid. In fact he understands emotions very well, rallying others and encouraging his friends with his blunt but usually right observations.

Overall, Masaru is a family oriented person, though ‘family’ doesn’t necessary mean blood. Through out the series he ‘adopts’ quite a few people, especially Agumon and Ikuto, who he treats like little brothers… including bickering and yelling at them pretty often. Yoshino becomes like an Big Sister to him, and even Touma is almost a sibling-like friendly rival… most of the time. Masaru holds all his closest friends on the level of family, and will do anything for them… including bashing their heads if he thinks they need it. He takes his ‘family’s’ safety and happiness as his own personal responsibility, and while he’ll never be sweet and sugary towards them, god forbid anyone else try to hurt them. And because of this, he sees no greater sin then betrayal. If someone he trusted turned their back on him it would be almost impossible for Masaru to forgive them… and his rage would be horrible. During his canon he even makes a real honest attempt to kill someone who he thought had turned against him, screaming for their blood.

But perhaps Masaru’s most glaring and obvious trait is his often idiotic, maybe even suicidal inability to back down. He throws himself against challenges no one should be able to surpass… and does so any way. Part of it’s skill, perhaps. But mostly it’s pure blind determination. Masaru doesn’t understand ‘can not’ for the most part. If he falls, he just gets back up and does it again, even to the point of certain death. While this might be seen as a good trait… it can also lead to all sorts of trouble. But regardless, it’s really the core of who he is. Untamable and unstoppable.

Character Abilities: Masaru’s main and only real ‘supernatural’ ability is a skill called ‘digisoul’, something that is hinted in canon to be available to all humans. The digisoul is the power of one’s soul and emotions given energy form. For most people the only thing that they can use it for is to trigger evolution in digimon.

Masaru isn’t most people.

Through out the show his digisoul becomes more and more powerful, starting out only covering his fist when he attacks something to covering his entire body. The power is connected to his passion, and the more emotional he gets, the bigger it gets. It allows him to cause damage to foes that, logically, should be able to swat him like a fly, and by the end of the series he’s able to block weapons the size of a house one handed and use it as a shield against energy attacks.

Also of note, while his normal digisoul is bright orange and fueled by mostly ‘good’ emotions, he has shown the ability to call it for ‘evil’ emotion, specifically blood-lust and rage. When this happens it changes to a black-purple (ironically the same as a witch’s soul. Not sure if this means anything in this setting) and he loses what little control over it he had in the first place as well as corrupting his partner and causing them mind-rending pain.

As for human abilities, Masaru is a skilled street fighter for his age, able to take on full grown men with ease. He’s shown jumping, flipping and climbing over all sorts of things (including giant monsters) through out the series, so while he has no weapon skills, he can take care of himself in most combat.

Character Weaknesses: Battle-wise, while Masaru is obnoxiously strong, he has little to no training in HOW to fight, simply charging like a wild bull. So anyone with trained skill will have the upper hand on him. He doesn’t plan, he doesn’t think out what he’s doing (for the most part. He does have his moments) and if punching it doesn’t work… he punches it more.

On a personal level, while Masaru shows a lot of confidence, he does have his weaknesses. All his bluster is mostly a burning need to ‘catch up’ with his father, a man that was loved and respected by almost everyone he met. Masaru constantly compares himself to this man and sees himself falling short of his ideal. He’s also a hothead, easily insulted and… while not stupid, probably not the sharpest knife in the set. And while he’s dedicated to his friends and family, he can be unthinkingly mean, insulting and rude to them (and anyone, really), making it hard for some people to deal with him.

He can also be outright arrogant and egotistic, especially if someone feeds into his pride. He’s gotten better about this through-out the series, but it can still bite him in the butt on occasion.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Masaru is almost annoyingly independent. He leads the charge, and being someone else’s tool would drive him insane. And due to being part of DATS and partnering up with Agumon he has experience with being part of a team… and being the driving force BEHIND that team.

Meister Ability:  Soul Transform,  Soul Rage,  Scorching Soul

Masaru has gone home and come back a Weapon (June 17) His Weapon form is the form of his evovled digivice:

In this form he fits comfortably in the palm of the hand like a small remote or iPod. Masaru can use the screen like many Weapons can use the reflections in their blades. It also comes with a eyehook latch so he can be worn on the belt. Convenient! His abilities are activated by slapping the hand on the little button on top (oww!) and pouring a bit of of the Meister's soul/will/desire into it. Basically it can't be activated on accident just by slapping him around (why would you do that ;;)

Also I suppose you could chuck him at enemies rather then use abilities. You might cause a bruise at most and masaru will be very unhappy with you B\.

Abilities: Masaru's Weapon form may look useless at first glace, but in reality it gives the Meister access to Masaru's greatest ability from his homeworld-- The Burst Mode. The Burst mode is basically soul energy in weapon form, surrounding the Meister's fists (or more, with higher resonance) with flickering flames. Once the flames are under control the Meister can form them into a simple Weapon form, such as a sword, knife, whip or lance (note complicated things like guns are beyond Masaru's abilities).

Starting out the Weapon is as strong as any simple Weapon with no abilities other then hurting Kishin (but sure LOOKS cool) but as resonance and amount of souls eaten grows the weapon can do more damage, eventually being able to cause horrible burns... but the more power is pumped into the ability the shorter it lasts... a max of 10 minutes at max.

The burst mode offers some appearance changes as well at higher resonance, though those are different for each Meister. Things like wings of flames or sparks in the eyes are not unheard of-- though they are purely cosmetic in nature. Pretty intimidating though!

But the Busrt Mode is a double edged sword. If the ability is activated with ill intent. Such as murder, or fueled with nothing but anger, Ruin Mode will activate instead (note that only one of the partners has to be in such a state to activate it, but if one is and the other isn't the stronger will will probably win out, carrying the other with them. If both wills are aligned in their dark intent, the resonance will make the Ruin Mode stronger-- just like Burst Mode).

Ruin Mode is, on the surface, identical to Burst Mode, except the flames are a crackling black and gray. But in fact the desire to kill and hurt takes over the Meister and Weapon pair completely. They are stronger then they would be in the Burst Mode (usually, a truly righteous pair with very good resonation might in fact lose power in the Ruin Mode) but lose any sense of control. They are simply racked with pain and can only see targets. Thankfully the Ruin Mode is short lived, and burns out quickly... but the pair would be completely drained, maybe even unconscious for a few days if it was esp. bad.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: aggressive, loyal, energetic, emotional, egotistic, determined

Soul Appearance: BLAZING ORANGE OF JUSTICE. Masaru’s soul has his little ponytail and extreme expressions. The pixels from his Digisoul surround it like an aura, and may flare up like a upset cat when he’s angry.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person: [The video clicks on, and the view seems to be half blocked by a discarded bowl. But even with only a partial view, it’s obviously a table in the Deadly Pretty Maid Café. Said table is covered in plates and bowls in various states of finished, and one (1) Daimon Masaru shoveling another bowl of food into his face.]

Nmm smpmth…  this place is great! All I gotta do is show them this communicator thing and they keep bringing more! S’not as good as mom’s, but whatever.

[One of the maids approaches, obviously gearing up to try the ‘companion’ part of her job… only to have the now empty bowl shoved at her, Masaru not even looking up]

More!

[She glares, before snatching the bowl and moving off screen]

I dunno why they wear those weird outfits though. You’d think they’d just get in the way….

[Said maid comes back into view, though Masaru doesn’t seem to notice… or see that she brought a few other workers, all with brooms, ladles, and one hammer. Let’s just say the screen cuts out there.]

Third Person: There were very few times Masaru Daimon could honestly consider himself horrified. Of course he didn’t think of it in those terms. When he thought about himself at all, as rare as that was, it was always in vague emotions and gut reaction, without any real names to it. But this was a sharply growing feeling of shock, disbelieve and dull terror stirring in his belly so intensely that even someone as dense as he was couldn’t question what it was. It had started when Kurata had set off that damn bomb, and kept rolling around, making him feel like throwing up… though that might have been the adrenaline too.

“Ku..ra..ta.” The name of that bastard hissed through his clenched teeth, his fingernails digging into his palms. Masaru twisted his eyes closed against the sight of the Digital World looming over them all, though he couldn’t drown out the sounds of people running in terror around him. The sound of his pulse helped though: he could take a moment and wallow in his rage at this mess before going back to the others and figuring out what the hell had -happened-.

Sadly, he didn’t have a chance, as out of no where, before he even reopened his eyes, he had that sickly familiar sensation of -falling-. The teenager yelped in panic, certain for that brief moment that ShineGreymon had somehow -dropped- him. But instead of a bone crushing thud, he only felt cool floor under his body, and peeking one eye open all he saw was darkness.
“Ngh…wha? Agumon?” He looked around frantically, finding no signs of his partner, his friends, the city, nothing. Only the sudden flickering of a giant screen and the feeling of his world crashing down on him. Who the hell did these people think they were, kidnapping him right as the -world was probably ending-? The fact that he was in America, or possibly even in another world completely kinda blew over his head. He didn’t have -time- for this crap.

So when the giant doors finally opened, he greeted his new keepers with a single punch to the nose.
