American Capitalists...BEWARE!!!!

Jul 20, 2006 00:42

Am I the only one who feels that the recent string of 9/11 movies are abhorrent? It's only been five years and already they seek to make a buck on an American tragedy. And that's all it is, people, money. The bigshot producers and actors and directors can go on television all they want and say that these movies are actually all about heroism and the "American Spirit"and the perserverance of our nation despite the odds; but how can that be a justification to those who actually suffered from the destruction and pain of losing someone in those buildings?

It's too soon!

It's only been five years since the World Trade Centers fell. The event isn't even in history books yet, and already Hollywood producers seek to profit with their tales of "heroism". I still remember when I went to New York City eight monthes after the explosions which shook us all to the very nerve endings. On the street their were peddlers who actually sold postcards with the World Trade Centers on fire and smoking. "World Trade Center Disaster Postcards"! 10 for $1 and for $20 you could get 25. What is wrong us as a nation?!

There have been many movies made depicting tragic events of our past. Titanic, Apollo 13, Pearl Harbour to name a few. But these movies were produced years after the actual events transpired when people were just beginning to forget the lessons and people who were a part of these histories. Now, I understand that money was indeed the deciding factor for creating these movies, but it isn't like the boat just sank yesterday! The feelings and emotions which ran deep throughout the actual events were something that we as a nation had forgotten and pushed aside so we could survive our future; as we should.

These 9/11 movies, however, are being created far too soon. We are still embroiled in the Middle East. There were people in our country screaming for the blood of anyone from the Middle East after the disaster of the World Trade Centers. We have finally calmed down and have begun to put those evil feelings behind us as a nation (for the most part. I know there will always be people who hate.) This movie is just going to open the wound wide open and create that same feeling of anger and hatred some felt on that day five years ago.

The fear as well. I remember that day. I remember feeling scared and panicked as I watched the news and the towers fell to the ground. And I wasn't even directly involved in anything remotely to the incident. Imagine the people who actually went through the pain and suffering of that day.

I think that releasing these movies is wrong right now. In twenty years, I might react differently; but the fact is that once again the dollar overrides any sense of integrity and decency in this country and it makes me just that much more cynical of life.
