Question...

Anybody on my friends list good at understanding all the nuts and bolts of how modern nations are measured and all that? Stuff like GNP, entry to the UN, blah blah blah all that stuff is vaguely beyond me. I can read it, and words are there, occasionally they make sense, but something just... doesn't click. There's some sort of barrier between "words on a page" and "understanding" that I can't seem to break through.

It'd be help for a passive writing project. (As measured by "laundry sucks, I'll do some writing while waiting, but nothing TOO serious as I need to pay attention and eventually stop to fold laundry.") I choose the oddest things for those kinds of writing projects, but... Yeah.

Anyway, if anybody can help put those things into idiot terms, or even help me figure out what would work and what wouldn't (with degrees of BS and applied handwaveium allowed for sake of story) I would appreciate it greatly. Email would be cool. Phone calls also might work, as I could ask questions and get clarification as we go. (If needed, email for the number.) Just... I have ideas, but I don't want them to come off as completely impossible.
