That Was The Weekend That Was

Friday -- Got out of work, packed our bags,  and left for Buffalo.  We crashed at my mother's house.

Saturday -- Up bright and early, and off to the Connecticut Street Armory where I had volunteered to work the tavern at Ice Dragon.  I made the mistake of buying a small pack of batteries for my camera for doing the Five Day challenge.  The camera went thru 4 batteries in less than a week.  I had only taken a handful of photos mostly of set-up when my last batteries died.  Perhaps it was just as well, there was a heated discussion on the nets afterward about flash photography while there are fighters in the list.

Ice Dragon was pretty much a schmooze fest for me.  It was also one of the those events where you go to drop off something that you've promised to someone and pick up something else that someone promised you.  I dropped off lots of 4oz cups to the scribes guild, and acquired a handful of empty cereal boxes (I go thru them like mad for puppet props.  Historically, they used scraps of leather, I consider this to be the modern equivalent.)  I managed to get a significant amount of work done on the table runner I've been hand-sewing for the past year while 'working' in the tavern.  I might actually finish it in another event or so.  I also got to tell a friend that they were dead! :)  It seems she's listed as deceased in the East Kingdom wiki.

After Ice Dragon, we went out to dinner with friends.  I've discovered one friend has a new significant other.  I've also heard that another friend has lost 350+ pounds (no, that's NOT a typo!) and now has TWO significant others.  They were there at Ice Dragon, but I missed seeing them.
Dinner was at Ruby Tuesday, just a short distance from the Thurway Mall.  One of the few places left other than the Chinese restaurants that has a decent salad bar.  I really miss the old Ponderosa restaurants.  Crashed at mother's house again.

Sunday -- Went to visit mother in the nursing home.  Gave her all the stuff we had bought her.  I got some more 4oz cups :)  The amount of petty thievery that goes on in that place gets my blood boiling.  In high school, I solved the problem by busting a few heads.  A solution I can't use there.  The problem is that it isn't malice.  Some of the those folk are senile and pick up 'pretties' like magpies.  It's gotten to the point that when something goes missing, the nurses can guess who took it on the first or second guess just by what was taken.

I got an enormous amount of work done on my bunraku puppet.  I just might actually have it finished in time for the Performing Arts event this coming weekend.
