That Was The Weekend That Was

Wednesday, 24th -- I picked up a free toilet from Freecycle.  Now, I can save about $150 off the toilet repair!

Thursday, 25th -- No more choir rehearsals!  I stayed home from shire meeting so I could veg out and watch my favorite TV show Person of Interest, which I haven't seen in over a month!  I fell asleep in the easy chair. :(

Friday, 26th -- J'anne, the woman at work who tracks everyone's birthdays, has been to conferences all month.  So, today I got called into the conference room for a surprise belated birthday mini-party with carrot cake.  We went out for our usual fish-fry.  We went back to Payne's Kettle and Keg.  Now that it's not lent, it was much easier to get a parking space and a table.

Saturday, 27th -- I intended to enter a free 5K run.  Naturally, I woke up with a screaming back-ache.  The usual errand-running, albeit a bit slower.  Saturday was National Pill Drop Off Day, where you could drop off outdated prescriptions.  My wife and I kinda went whole hog on this.  We got my mother to clear out her medicine cabinet, we cleared out the first aid kit, pet meds drawer, and the entire medicine closet.  Our house has two linen closets facing each other across the corridor.  We use one for linens and towels, the other for medicines and grooming products.  I swept everything into cardboard boxes on Friday and Karen weeded it all out.  A once overflowing closet is now half-empty.  After errands, we spent a very country afternoon, pickling vegetables, planning gardens, pasteurizing milk, making cheese, boiling maple syrup.  I cannot believe I'm still boiling maple sap this late in the year.  The tree has finally stopped producing, but I still had a couple of buckets collected from when I didn't have time to boil.

Sunday, 28th -- I worked on the shire newsletter until it was time to go to UU services.  Stayed after a few minutes to speak with the landowner where we're hoping to host a shire event.  Then home to install a new toilet.  Actually, to un-install.  It took 7+ hours to get the old toilet out the door.  Most of the problem was one closet bolt that was rust-welded shut.  I had to hack-saw it, naturally it wasn't in a accessible spot.  The new closet bolts are brass!  Hopefully, the new toilet will be installed Monday afternoon.  No, we're not going primitive, the upstairs toilet works just fine.
