The Last Millenium Plan entry

Dec 12, 2012 20:40

Back in 2000, before the economy tanked, I conceived The Millenium Plan. For the next dozen years, I was going to be spending the triple digit dates in a different city celebrating different events each year, 01.01.01 New Year's in Times Square, 02.02.02 Groundhog's Day in Punxatawney PA, etc. Unfortunately, the economy tanked making this nothing but an idle fantasy. However, I continued it as an intellectual exercise.
The list so far, has been...
01/01/01 -- Times Square, New York City for New Year's Eve
02/02/02 -- Punxatawney, Pennsylvania  for Groundhog's Day -- I actually did this one, as it was easily affordable.
03/03/03 -- New Orleans, Louisiana  for Mardi Gras
04/04/04 -- Memphis Tennessee in honor of Martin Luther King -- This is also my birthday
05/05/05 -- Mexico City, Mexico for Cinco de Mayo
06/06/06 -- The Beaches of Normandy, France in honor of D-Day
07/07/07 -- Las Vegas, Nevada just to play the slot machines
08/08/08 -- Bejing, China for the opening day of the Olympics
09/09/09 -- Glasgow, Scotland (Click here for reason why)
10/10/10 -- Taipei, Taiwan for Double-Ten Day
11/11/11 -- Forest of Compiègne, France in honor of Armistice Day

12/12/12 is the final triple digit date of this century.  Unfortunately, there aren't that many good choices.  I could have picked Nebraska for the founding of Boy's Town, or Mexico for Our Lady of Guadalupe, but neither prospect interested me.  So, where I most would want to be today if money was no object, at the 12/12/12 Benefit concert for Sandy Relief in Madison Square Garden.  Thus it ends, not with a bang but with a whimper.
