I started remembering part of my dreams last night.
I was in a very large house, large enough for at least three families for there were more than three kitchens. I had recently moved my things into the attic that was above the most remote kitchen, the smallest kitchen that was not yet finished. Only two of the burners had been installed and it was uncertain as to whether they were connected.
I remember talking to some friends about my new room and the antique / bohemian decor when they asked me about the ghost. Of course there was a ghost and I had just realized that I'd forgotten to ask permission to live in the attic. I knew it was merely a formality and, even if the ghost declined permission, I would be able to move easily because I have not slept in the bed yet. I was much too busy exploring the house with some younger friends of mine (school children, perhaps?) to consider trucking up to the remote part of the house to sleep.
The exploring was wonderful. We would find back staircases that were not hidden, merely placed in corners or behind what seemed like a closet door. I am reminded of the small, steep, narrow staircases that I encountered in Europe. Though in my dream, I navigated the stairs like a pro instead of some North American who's used to standard sized, regular staircases.
The other dream: I was in New France (which was really Winnipeg. I think I was supposed to be Metis. weird), talking to some generals and advising them against naming the city "Paris" or even "New Paris". I brought information about an English invasion and told the French (Acadians?) to leave for their own safety. I advised them to travel south to Orleans, East to Labrador or Gaspe, or overseas to France.
aside: (mini triumph) Have you ever picked up a padlock that you've not touched in about a year? I had a strong idea that the middle number was a single digit. My hands remembered the first number being around the 5:00 position. I played with the lock for a while, trying out old combinations, relying on old memories. Then I trusted my body memory - what my hands remembered. After a few tries, I WAS SUCCESSFULl! After all, the last number involves just tugging at the lock every few degrees.
