From our webpage: "We are ALL volunteers and understand that one day, this may turn into an actual job. The longer we volunteer and dedicate the more likely success will bring more and more return to our hearts, minds and life."
The crunch is on. We're five days away and panic is setting in for some people. Sadly, some people think that volunteering is something that "other people do" - that there is no benefit for them. Many people don't know the sense of pride in seeing how much that your contribution, your time, makes a difference in peoples' lives.
SO - We seek volunteers! We need people to sign up before Wednesday. HECK we needed people to sign up last month - Specifically, we need people who sign up and then actually SHOW up. NOTE: we shouldn't make you work all day ... unless you beg, I suppose.
WHO are we looking for? We are looking for fun-loving people who like dealing with the public. Games and Rides needs outgoing people. Imagine the old carnival kind of guy who shouts "step right up, kids and ride the mini Pirate Ship!" and "come on over for our mini-joust - ride the wooden horse toward the target!" For stage assistants (squires), we need people who can help performers set up and then help pass the hat after the show if they require. (from the producer's twitter: Volunteers for stages (babysit stages) entertainment@bcrenfest.com and games and rides (Run a game) still needed. gamesrides@bcrenfest.com )
What's in it for you??
- Free ticket when you rack up hours (plus, browse the site on your break)
- Watch the Joust!
- Do some unique shopping before seeing Harry Potter
- Rack up volunteer hours for your resume/job search.

What do I mean about Games and Rides?
It's rather youth-oriented but there are some things adults can safely and legally do there. You will find:
Archery Range with room for a couple of archers. They aim behind a half-wall toward a painted burlap-covered target. It's not for pros so it's not a strength challenge. See 2:50 in the
Youtube video here Pirates Vs Nobles - play with a partner, aiming at a wooden ship or castle, trying to knock down miniature versions of the characters from our storyline
Boules - lawn bowling crossed with curling.
Horseshoes - and "closeness" counts.
Quarterstaff Challenge, involving pool noodles and a 'log' balanced on the ground.
AND our rides:
Mini - Joust, featuring a wooden rolling horse. Jouster hits a target along the track
The Flying Duchman (a child-sized pirate ship swinging like that massive one at Playland)
Wooden Carousel: human-powered merry go round with comfortable benches for wee ones.
