I can tame the rowdies?
I got called in today, a grade 4 class.
Across the hall, the gr. 5 teacher made mention that I was the only sub so far who could 'handle' her class and thanks for making sure they were taken care of those may months ago. I guess the class and I have a mutual respect thing going on because I don't really remember coming down hard on them.
I felt flattered and ... appreciated. sometimes I forget just how much effort I put into a day: following the lesson plan, trying to keep the kids engaged, and watching out for behaviour issues all the while trying to be the kind of sub who is approachable ... this means showing the class that I'm not a bully, that I'm trying to respect their teacher's plans and not take over (this seems to work - the kids maybe feel that I'm a victim of the system like them and that subbing is not easy and I'm just trying to get through the day as well).
anyway, more classes tomorrow. I'm booked the rest of the week!
