Are all doctors like this?

Seriously? Because if so, I'm losing hope in the profession...

This is what happened and you can tell me if I'm off the rails on this. We've been going to DuPont for Ben. They have an excellent reputation and in general it's been a positive experience. By that I mean the logistics, not necessarily the care.

Last week Ben had something called a Stizmark test which is not a very big deal. On Friday (3/2) he ate 25 radioactive rings in some ice cream. All his meds were discontinued for the duration of the test and on the next Wednesday (3/7) an abdominal x-ray was done to see what was where. All well and good.

They never called me with results so today, almost a week later, I called them. I called them at around 10 am and left a message. At almost 4:00 they got back to me. I was at the library with the kids, so I had the phone off and they left a message. The message was that yes, there was a problem with the test, it did show trouble and oh, by the way, he's totally backed up (as of last Wednesday, almost a week ago) and bordering on impacted and you need to do a "clean-out" and call us back for more info and instructions.

Their office closed at 4:30. I found that out when I called them at 4:32. No lie.

Am I insane here? If a problem is seen on a medical test, wouldn't you expect the doctor to initiate the call to give you the results? And if something urgent (like, say stool impaction) was seen on a test, wouldn't you kind of expect that they'd be more quick to call you? Like, maybe, that day? Not waiting almost a week until you call them?
