Home safely from East Kingdom Winter War

Wat and I got in about 10 this morning after over-knighting at Evander's last night. We car pooled down with Evander, Rattanacus, Cal & Ed which meant 6 people in the extended cab of the truck - cosy and fun actually. It definitely felt like a boys road trip. The Ealdormerian addition was 8 in total - two fighting knights as Mencken (sp) was there. About 54 fighters took to the field in variety of battle formats - single death open field melee, single death bridge battles and then 45 minute broken field (with tar and lavapits) unlimited resurrections. Everything was fought with combat archery as the field house where the event takes place has netting up to catch everything.

How do I feel about it? It was a good day. How was fighting? Umhh... not certain I brought my A game which I really needed to. I didn't throw combos as I will in practice. Didn't feel comfortable enough to pick up Hugo's great axe. Want more practice with it. Need to work on keeping aggression up when tired which is hard. (Hoping if I work more on basic skills they will be able to come and support the tired Dagmar at the end.) I have become too used to fighting one combatant... having one source of "danger" to watch. I wasn't good at paying attention to my perpheral vision and seeing threats coming before they were in range. Got killed twice by combat archery which just peeved me off... smart archer as for the general battle at the end he joined our side as a sword and board so he didn't have bunch of peeved fighters targeting him. Which is part of the mental game I need to work on. I still haven't achieved the "Thank-you for killing me well" ideal of many of the fighters I admire who take a kill with grace and dont get peeved with themselves just seem to know it is a chance to go again.

It was inspiring, in truth, I need to work on my general conditioning. When I grow up I want to be a polearm fighter from Montreal - forget their names BUT they are amazing. Rattanacus got a class on spear targeting from one of the them...great drill suggestions to work on power (throwing hip), targetting and range.

Something I might work with on the garage door once the back area is not so snow covered. My endurance is there as I fought all day every battle and did get a class/practice on killing two stickers at the end of the day. And I can kill Easterners with their huge shields (yes, there are people who fight with larger shields than mine) Heck, there was someone with a round whose diameter was twice mine.

Bit tired and definitely bruised ( but only on the sword side so atleast I have one side I can curl up on). Off to work in the shop for a bit.
