Ard Chreag Fight Practice January 28, 2008

Jan 29, 2008 08:33

Fighting: Sir Cennedi, THL Wat, L Quilliam and myself.  Watching and getting points on helm padding GEMMA who will hopefully be bringing her armour next week.

I didn't fight as much as perhaps I could have (spent about 1 hour out of the 3 talking).  BUT when I was fighting I  did try to keep the initiative. Limited Quilliam to killing me by thrusts since he couldn't get much else in.  In truth it was for a small practice very varied in formats. With Sir Cennedi quickly mastering left handed killing of people, Wat playing pole the entire night and just Quilliam and myself as sword and board the non sinister way it meant every time I circled through the bear pit I would come up against something different.

Started the night attempting to do slow work against Wat's polearm.  I dont know a more frustrating way to start a night.  Not necessarily bad just I couldn't get my head around how to do it.  Cennedi was attempting to make suggestions which also wasn't helpful since I already had too many parts of my brain involved in this conversation. I am beginning to understand the purpose behind slow work as a warm up. A chance to engage not only muscles but brains.  But against pole where I see my only advantage is to rush them before they actually have a chance to use their range I was and still am having a hard time working solutions. I was more than happy to speed up.

There aren't many fight reports for this month posted but I did actually ( if you include the demo and if I make it to practice on Thursday) manage to practice twice a week, 3 weeks out of 4.
