The Wrestler
It's good, but all this hype is making it impossible to live up to expectations. Kinda like Obama.
All I can say is that this movie is all about pain. It's about screwing up, getting screwed over, and maybe getting some screws jammed into your flesh. You'll cringe from the self-inflicted anguish, both from inside and outside the ring. It sucks to be in this man and for all the others in this line of work. As much of a downer as I may have painted it, the film takes on a very hopeful tone.
Performances are genuine all around, and you really get a solid sense of the characters, major and minor alike, even the random incidentals.
It's worth a watch, but you should already have the good sense to know that the life of a professional punching bag is a bitch and a half. You know the story already. Come for the performances, stay for the writhing, naked Marisa Tomei. I can't say it's a must-see, but I thought it was time well spent.
Also, in a WTF moment, you'll understand...maybe...what it means to "party like a fireman."
