I apologize, I've been misinformed, and have been propogating this misinformation. My animation geek friends were (many, many moons ago) talking about the animation techniques behind the upcoming Nightmare Before Christmas quasi-sequel Corpse Bride. They said that it was actually CG with characters rendered at a slower framerate to give them the jerky look of hand-animated stop-motion. According to a blurb in the latest issue of Wired, it really is still stop-motion "claymation." Its revolutionary technique, however, comes from its shooting with digital still cameras (a Canon 8-megapixel) and directly imported onto a Mac for stitching together. Because of all the time saved from not having to process film, they completed production 27 weeks faster than with Nightmare.
