Preface: I've not seen either Broken Lizard's previous film Club Dread nor the television series Dukes of Hazzard.
The Broken Lizard cast make cameos, and I'd say that if this movie weren't tied to an existing property, it'd be produced under the Broken Lizard label. The film was more entertaining than not, and I can best describe it as hard-drivin' car stunt porn, if you're into that sort of thing. Most of the driving was not cheated using computer assistance (even jumps are practical effect, with some CG'd actor-face shots throw in). I can only hope that the DVD has an option for selectable camera angles during the numerous chase scenes (not that I'd necessarily pick it up; it'd just be an obvious feature to have). I don't know if there supposed to be so much drift/powerslide-style driving in the series, but I'm now eagerly awaiting the Initial D live-action film (hopefully that won't be restricted to limited markets upon US release). Speaking of drifting, Justin Lin (the fellow behind Better Luck Tomorrow) is helming the third Fast and the Furious movie which will revolve around drift-racing. While I have hopes he can put good character and story development into the film, I think his agenda will clash with the andrenaline-junky style demanded from this sort of film.
Also, regarding the whole "stars and bars" controversy with the NAACP, I guess they didn't actually watch the movie. They address what the dixie flag means to various people, with even the Duke boys having a sinking feeling upon discovering its addition to their hot-rod-ed car.
