Comparison

Went out on the town last night like a crazy lout, ended up in some place called Quatro. This being the third time I have been out drinking in Canberra, I have to say, each time I have been disappointed with the service. The *customer* service wasn't noticeably bad in any way, I just couldn't order my favourite drink -- Bacardi, Coke w/ Muddled Lime -- every time I did, I got a blank stare when asking "Do you have a Muddle?". If you don't remember or don't know what a Muddle is, it is a wooden stick used to crush and grind the lime into the glass, releasing it's juice and pulp, making the drink super tasty and sour.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, it's just when living in a big city, a man grows accustomed to a few of the finer things. Funny, well trained, bright, happy, quick whitted bar tenders who leave you with a good impression, not to mention, actually know what a Muddle is. Rather than bored bar tenders who arn't having fun and don't wish to be there. I thought of an example last night, take these two scenarios:

[Canberra]
Bar: "It's $2/drink tonight, basic spirits only"
Me: "OK, can I have a Bacardi, Coke & Lime?"
Bar: "Lime juice?"
Me: "No a slice of lime, do you have a muddle?"
(young lady gives me a blank stare and pours a shot of Bacardi)
Bar: "Barcadi is $4"
Me: "OK then, in that case, just gimmie what he's having."
(young lady makes a Boubon & Coke)
END: 1x shot wastage. Dazed and confused, Sam thinks: Welcome to Canberra

[Brisbane]
Bar: "It's $2/drink tonight, basic spirits only"
Me: "OK, can I have a Bacardi, Coke & Lime? Is it cool if you muddle the lime?"
Bar: "Sure."
(young lady pours a shot of Bacardi)
Bar: "Barcardi is $4"
Me: "Isn't Bacardi a basic spirit?"
Bar: "Not here apparantly, (grin) $2 is fine."
END: No Bacardi is wasted and Sam walks away impressed.

And that, Laidies and Gentlemen, is what really grinds my gears.
My ipod never fails to please my ears with its randomness.
I think I went through a speed camera last night.
The worst part is not knowing.
