Rarely do I spend money on myself, especially large amounts of money (unless, of course, the money is going toward something dull and practical). Even more rarely do I buy comics, as I've been illiterate to the art form until recently. I've always preferred regular, standard books with regular, standard words in regular, standard order; mixing words and pictures and thought bubbles is confusing.

However, after mourning the sad dearth of information the Interweb had to offer on Lara Lor-Van, I went on a comic hunt that spanned the depths of eBay and a few local comic shops in Grand Rapids. I'm proud to say I now own Superman lore from many ages, including obscure Legion stories and 2/3 of the Krypton Chronicles that tell of Superman's ancestry (book 3 is on its way).

New problem: I have comic books all over my floor, and need to steal supplies from Alaric so that I can store and preserve them properly. I really didn't need to add any time-consuming activities to my life, but given that I get deliriously giddy when reading about Jimmy Olsen's hate-ins and Mr. Mxyzptlk's schemes, it's probably worth it.

After all, who says growing up can't involve a little fun now and then?
