I was going to do a post about recent TV anyway, but now I get to start it with this:
1) OMG, someone wrote me a New Year's Resolution fic! That is so exciting! I've been doing Yuletide since 2004 and I've never even gotten a treat before. Eeeeep! It's "Brothers and Sisters", Kevin/Robert (pre-show) and it's very very NC-17. It's soooo good. Lavish love and affection on it here:
easy (like Sunday morning) 2) I waited to do this post until after "Vegas" aired, because I was assuming it would be awesome. Omigod, it was dull. Like, there's 10 minutes of people playing cards. And the rest of it is mostly just flash-cutting, beauty shots of Vegas (or Joe Flanigan) and the dullest Rodney McKay in any universe. I've said it before, I'll say it again: I really can't wait for SGA to be done with canon. The writers are just sucking all the joy out of it for me this year.
3) Actual squee! The Top Gear Vietnam special was amazing! Aside from setting new standards for tehgay, it was just beautifully filmed and the many many shots of Clarkson motorbiking in the rain were just awesome. I loved how they poked fun at Richard for not wanting to eat anything. And then James was just serenely happy pretty much the whole time. That's the subtitle of this adventure, isn't it? James May's Revenge. But seriously, it was like a really good celebrity episode of The Amazing Race. Just awesome.
4) I know some people didn't like the Doctor Who Xmas Special, but I've long since given up hoping that RTD will buy a clue on gender and race issues, so I just rolled my eyes and ignored those parts. Mostly I just loved Tennant and Morrissey larking about together and the scenic values were very nice as well. I loved the balloon Tardis. Relatedly, I was really hoping that it was going to be Patterson Joseph (aka "Johnson" from Peep Show) as the new Doctor and am kind of pissed that those rumors were wrong. Another young white boy. Grrr.
5) I was a little underwhelmed by the QI Children in Need episode, so it was to see the show back on form with the Christmas ep. Dom Joly fit in far better than first-timers often do and all the stuff with the language of fans was hysterical. Does Rob Brydon proposition his co-stars on every panel show he's on or what? Love Rob Brydon. He and Stephen were just shameless at the end there. I'm totally asking for that pairing next Yuletide.
