2011: Goals.

Jan 03, 2011 22:56

In addition to some of the things I mentioned at the end of my last post, I have a few specific year-long goals I've been thinking about as well for 2011.

+ I'm going to attempt to not buy any "new" clothes all year. This means any clothing I buy will be used/second hand: there are a ton, and I mean a ton, of thrift shops in the Portland area to make this possible, and it's much more environmentally and socially conscious. And I'm also just kind of interested to see if I'll be able to do it. However, if I DO buy any new clothing, it has to be made in the US.

+ I want Kathy or I to call all of our best friends from college once a month. It's so easy to feel disconnected and it's amazing how much one can catch up just from one phone call, and how good that feels.

+ Also, actually call both of my parents once a week. This has been the routine ever since I left home years ago, but especially over the last few years, it's easy when I get busy to have that stretched out to "once every two or three weeks." While I don't know if my dad minds much, I know it does bother my mom, and at the same time that I don't want guilt issues with my mom to rule my life, I DO want to be in better and more consistent touch with my family, especially in light of the health issues which came up over Christmas break. You never know how much time you have.

+ Get all of my pictures backed up onto my external hard drive.

+ To repeat myself, I'd really like to cross off at least half of the things on my To Do in the Northwest list. Some of the biggest ones I'd to accomplish include: riding in the annual Portland Bridge Pedal; visiting at least one more National Park; visiting Silver Falls State Park.

Hm. I feel like there were more things I'd been thinking of over the last few weeks, but this is all I can remember for now. 2011 is going to be a big year.
