Random Favorite Memories from our Oregon/California Trip:
- The amount of times Kim said the word "butte."
- That time that I randomly passionately and suddenly fell in love with the Decemberists.
- That time that for a solid eight or more hours we ate nothing but chocolate. And rice crackers.
- The amount of times Kim said the word "transient," the politically correct term for the young white population of folks who are homeless by choice - a phenomenon that is apparently all over the West Coast and from what I can tell, almost nonexistant on the East Coast.
- The sudden realization that there are almost no black people in the Pacific Northwest.
- When we were standing in the "Ten Items or Less" aisle at Wal-Mart behind a woman who had a cartload overflowing with items that ended up totaling over $70, which caused Zoe, already a little on edge from being in a Wal-Mart, to say quite loudly, "Wow, I love your ten items," before shuffling off to another aisle.
- That time we used the bathroom at a fancy historic hotel in Astoria, not knowing that we'd have to follow a series of very dimly lit hallways past weird paintings and empty dining rooms where everything was decorated in a deep red color with lots of old wood in order to actually get to the bathroom, which made me feel very creepy and like anyone was going to jump out and yell at us at any second.
- That time we sat next to a completely naked old man who tried to start up conversation with us in the hot springs.
- That time we were the only people who weren't completely naked in the hot springs.
- How many times Zoe pointed out asian oak trees.
- That time Cliff hiked up Spencer's Butte in flip flops, to then take them off at the top and hike back down barefoot.
- Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles.
- When Steve "out-drove" the rain clouds on 'da PCH.
The One Thing I was Going to Buy Today:
- A tripod.
What I Bought Instead:
- Groceries
- Pizzanini
- Ben & Jerry's
- Vitamin Water
- 25 cent Spiderman stickers from CVS
What Will be Two Really Big Bummers When We Move:
- Not living next to Pizzanini anymore for quick & good calzones & pizzas & baked spaghetti
- Not living next to a 7/11 anymore for frequent Ben & Jerry's trips
Bummers of the Day:
- While holding my cat on our couch while watching The Colbert Report, I pick off what looks like a little piece of cheese from the fur underneath her tail. I then realize that the little piece of cheese which is now on my fingertip is MOVING. More bewildered than grossed out, I make Kathy look at it, who then wikipedias it to figure out that it is a tapeworm. Now grossed out, I make probably-very-expensive vet appointment for next week and look at Lily with overly-concerned affection for the rest of the day, while she stares back in the same bored and ambivalent way she always does.
- Realizing that the end of the month is coming up, which means rent/student loans/gym/other various payments are due, while I currently have $1 in my checking account.
Three TV Show Cancellations which I Will Never, Ever Understand:
- My So Called Life
- Freaks & Geeks
- Veronica Mars
Person I Want to Hug Even Though I Haven't Talked to Him in a Long Time:
- My dad
Reasons This Weekend Will Be Awesome:
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
- WBOS Earthfest @ the Hatchshell
- The distinct possibility of drinking at the Elephant & Castle with Phil and Keegan.
