Guess I ought to update this or something...
So, I've been in New Zealand for the last month, and I'm having a great time. Spent a couple of weeks doing volunteer work on a retreat centre in the wilderness west of Auckland city, now I'm working my way down to Alexandra (a bit west and south of Queenstown) on the south island where I should have a few months of fruit picking work lined up.
I approved heartily of Auckland, which is a lovely city - nice feel, nice-ish weather (even when it rains it's warm), a bit big but still a nice feel to the place. Wellington is a horrible cold windy place - to be fair, I was there for about a day and a half, after an 11 hour coach journey from Auckland, the hostel was pretty icky (seens to be a trend in Wellington hostels, I've yet to hear about one nice one), and I might just have caught a couple of days of bad weather... but it was cold!
Now I'm in Nelson, which is to the north of the south island, and I love it here - I'd love to stay here but unfortunately I've got to keep heading south! The lovely hostel here probably helps, but the place also just has a nice feel, an organic shop full of all the fun things that makes vegetarians/vegans happy, a couple of vegetarian cafes and a really fun market on Saturdays. Also today was one of those lovely sunny, hot, blue sky days, and Nelson is on the coast, so naturally I spent the day at the beach :D
Next I head down to Greymouth, Franz Josef (glaciers!), Wanaka and Queenstown, although how many of those I actually make it to depends on when the fruit picking starts - they've yet to let me know, I guess they don't know themselves yet. I've taken plenty of photos, mainly of landscapes I have to admit, and at some point when I have a suitable internet connection I'll upload them all.
Also wow, Plaza change O.o
