There's the moose again....

St. Nicholas apparently stopped by Tuesday morning sometime, delivering an Air Hogs R/C helicopter ($25 at Wally World) to Henry and a Garmin 330c to my directionally-challenged wife. She almost cried, she was so happy.

What makes this funny for all you outlanders is that Wichita is laid out in almost a perfect Cartesian grid. For normal people, it's almost impossible to get completely lost in Wichita - just head in any direction and you'll either hit a street you've heard of or a street with a number. My wife ... my lovely, brilliant, talented, charismatic teacher of a wife ... isn't a normal person. More than once she's left Heights trying to get downtown (and you CAN see the skyline from there, believe it or not) and ended up halfway to El Dorado.

As for me, as I progress into my mid-thirties the presents get more and more ... functional. No ties or anything that cliche, but I got a double boiler (Hollandaise sauce and no more scorched chocolate!), a "pancake puff" skillet (imagine a weird amalgam between a cast-iron skillet and a muffin tin), the Chiefs complete history DVD (minus the vortex of suck that is the 2007 season, that is), and a couple of games (natch).

Oh, and my parents once again got us a dozen bottles of the finest Kansas wine (and I'm not even being ironic in saying so). Here's something uniquely Kansas, Guy: Wildwood Cellars. Their Concord is a house favorite.

I know that there are a few atheists, agnostics, and skeptics on my f-list, and I want to thank all of them for being the kind, considerate, and respectful people that they are.

And I'd like them to listen to something. No, it's not a sermon, it's part of a lecture on the different aspects of secularization given by Dr. Ravi Zacharias at a conference at Johns Hopkins University last year on The Human Condition. It's only 13-ish minutes long (and only 4-ish MB), and you can safely skip the minute of bumper at the beginning and end of the file.

The reason I want you to listen to this is that it's evidence that at least some of us Christians use our brains. Also, it's one of his funniest stories, and it's worth listening to just for the punchline.

Ravi on Pluralization

Gimme a holler if you check it out. Whether you do or don't, have a Merry remainder of the 12 days of Christmas. Remember, tomorrow is the 3 French Toast, and Friday is the 4 pounds of back bacon.

christmas, ravi
