Shox win, shox win, shox win

For those that follow college baseball (hey, I know *I* do), the Wichita State Shockers have won their regional, with a 3-0 victory over Arizona tonight. They'll most likely now host a super-regional against U.Cal-Irvine (the Aardvarks). If they win that, they head to Omaha for the first time in ... a long time.

Listened to a lot of the game on the radio tonight as Roni and I were getting groceries. It reminded me of all the nights I'd listen to the Royals teams of the mid-80's on the radio. Even now, the sound of Fred White calling a game is probably still the single most relaxing thing that I can experience, better than a massage, better than medication.

And those Royals gave us the best triple play in baseball history, courtesy of the all-B's infield. George Brett fielded the grounder, flipped to shortstop Buddy Biancalana who ran over to cover 3rd, who winged it to 2nd Baseman Juan Beniquez, who turned it to 1st baseman Steve Balboni. Yes, it was Brett to Biancalana to Beniquez to Balboni for the triple play.

I'm going to try and get tickets for Henry and I to go to a super-regional game. If not, we're going to a Royals game. He's 4. It's time.

In other news, the pool still looks like a giant petri dish, but now it's an aquamarine, and not a black petri dish, so progress is being made.

memories, sports, royals
