I went in to see Reka this morning. Visiting hours started at 10AM. When I arrived they brought Reka out and she didn't look much better than she did when I dropped her off. She was still very sluggish. Her temperature dropped from 105.6 to 104, but she wasn't eating or drinking water from a bowl. I walked her briefly and then sat with her for another 30 minutes or so before I had to leave for work. They gave me a bowl of food and I was able to hand feed her a very small amount.
I called for an update around 3PM and they told me that her temperature was down to 103.1 but that she still wasn't eating. I asked about visiting hours and they said I could come by whenever I wanted, even after hours, to see her. So at around 8PM I came by with some treats for Reka (peanut butter, some bread, and this bland food that she absolutely loves).
When she came out she looked much better. I wouldn't say she was bouncing off the walls or anything, but she definitely had more energy. She looked more alert, but still very tired, and the vet tech said that she was starting to eat some solid food and was drinking heavily from her water bowl.
I was with her for around an hour, petting her, walking her, and during that time she did start to eat some of the food I brought with me. Not much, but she had several large bites before I left for the evening. The vet tech gave Reka a chunk of the food and then led her into the back. I suspect the bowl ended up in her crate and that she'll eat it all by morning.
Her temperature did go back up to 104, but that isn't unusual. Fevers generally increase in the evening.
The preliminary tests came back negative for lyme and other such diseases, but her white blood cell counts were very high and her platlet count was low. This can indicate that she does have Lyme Disease, but they won't know for certain until tomorrow when the more accurate lyme test comes back.
She is still on IV fluids and antibiotics, so hopefully that plus her newfound appetite helps cause her fever to break overnight. With any luck I'll have her back home sometime tomorrow.
