I have over 130'000 words in my novel. That's about the size of a small novel, past novella size.
I have since scrapped that version and am rewriting it from the bottom up. Chapter 1 down. About 30 or so to go.
My characters needed to be changed, they needed to grow up. A lot of my writing was outdated. Having written most of that over two years ago makes it just a little invalid, both style-wise and also when it comes to story, lore, and character depth.
I'm blessed to have so much interest in it that I'm getting the best feedback I ever have. The building of the world is taking more time than the writing right now, but I know that every hour spent on the lore increases the depth and immersion of the book.
I've rebuilt the map (still am, really, but it's a slow process). I'm reworking the main characters, adding a few new ones, adding a very fascinating twist to one of them. The flow of the book is changing.
I do, however, have both the beginning and the end. I've never seen the end of my novels before tonight. Tonight, while sitting in my office and chatting about the book with him, I saw the end of the story that I've been writing for the last eight years.
Wow.
I can't wait to get it done and published.
