Alright, I'm writing a term paper for my Folklore class and could use some help. Basically, I'm writing about urban legends (you know, things like the Vanishing Hitchhiker, the Jersey Devil, NYC sewer alligators, Bloody Mary, etc), but in video games. Specifically, what certain well-known video game urban legends are and how they've evolved because ( Read more... )

Fairly obvious, but the whole "Leroy Jenkins" phenomenon.

I would say the secret room in The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. I don't remember the exact name, but it had to do with some kid winning a contest and having his name in the game. It was a real room, but you had to do some obscure map pattern to get to it.

It was in the light world, in the first hole you fall in on the side of the castle.

You speak of the Chris Houlihan room. *nods*

I don't understand? are you looking for "video game urban legends"? or are you looking for video game phenomenons? because if you're talking secret things that became big later, or for some un-known reason. then thats one thing, but if you're talking about urban legends, urban legends would be classified as things that COULD be true but that haven't been proven completely yet.

let me know and i'll throw some out on the one that you're looking for.

Both, but primarily the legends. If the legend happened to turn out true or was actually implemented after the fact, that's fine, since they still started as legends. Alternately, if something was true but there were many theories on how to do it, or if it spawned legends of other things, that works, too.

Okay so this is probably going to sound very random but you and I used to know each other. You and I went to Mt Carmel together. You may not remember me since I moved in 5th grade but my maiden name was Ashley Downing. I stumbled upon your lj because I am going back to school come this fall and was looking for some clubs to join at ASU. Found T.H.E.M., thought about joining, dug around the page, saw your name as president, found the lj community, found this journal, clicked on leave comment, and I am currently writing you this message. ;) (ignore the randomness. I haven't slept yet)

So I figured I would drop you a line and say hi.

Take care!

Holy crap. Yeah, I totally remember you, Ashley, heh. Didn't I used to bum those dinner rolls off you in lunch in the hall?

Oh wow! I had totally forgotten about that! I can't believe you remember that! I can still remember the taste of that weird gravy they would give us with mash potatoes though.

So what's new with you? How's life been treating you?

Also, what's the deal with T.H.E.M.? Seems like a pretty cool club. Is it going to be around next semester? You going to be around with it next semester? Weird thing is I think I know some of the people in it already. No one particularly well but there are certainly some people I recognize. Small world!

Life's been excellent. I'm hopefully graduating this fall with a degree in Secondary Ed - English and I'm getting married end of June 08 (grats on yours, btw!).

THEM's great fun. You like Heroes (HRG ftw) and anime, so you'd definitely fit in just fine. We do some random things over the summer, but stuff mostly hits full swing again when classes start in the fall. We meet every Thursday, just check the website for times and which room we're in in the MU (main campus). I'm not President anymore, but I'll still be lurking around at any meeting I can get to after I'm done student teaching.
