"Stealth literature," I do not know that phrase. Is it a bit like candy-flavored mathematics?

In any case, I agree that his knighthood is well-deserved. Really, if Elton John got it, Pratchett is years overdue.

I was first introduced to him by a friend who thrust _Reaper Man_ at me. At the time, I declared it the best book I'd ever read. If you can believe it, I even had a reasonably intimate moment with a woman in college that involved a reference to that book. She had rather coarse, short, blond hair, and while leaning together and quietly running my fingers through it, I described the ending of Reaper Man and mentioned how her hair reminded me of the blowing fields of wheat. SUPER SEXY, I know. Eh, it was sincere and worked at the time.

My favorites by him, though, were two that are hard to find now in bookstores but were present in the school's library, namely _Strata_ and _Dark Side of the Sun_, from when Pratchett hadn't quite settled on fantasy and was shooting off in a sci-fi direction. If you haven't read them, please acquire them by any means necessary.

And, for your amusement, an exchange from an American Science Fiction course I took in collidge:

Andy: (sitting up front, speaking to the class) "Well, I found out too late that the author of the work I'm presenting is actually British. But since most of his works aren't set on earth, I figured it might be okay to go ahead."
Professor Mary Grimm: (smiles) "That's your defense?"
Andy: "Yes."
Grimm: (more smiley) "Okay, go ahead."
