I like Salt Lake, I really do. It's got plenty of outdoor activities, it's a clean city, low crime. But there's one thing I definitely don't like about it: winter inversions.

Because Salt Lake is in a "bowl" surrounded by mountains, frequently during winter we get this weather pattern. A high pressure system arrives above us, and it pushes all the air into the bowl. And so the air in the city doesn't mix with the air above it. Pollution gets trapped in the layer of air, and every day that goes by gets worse and worse.

Right now the smog is so bad I can taste it. Literally.
