Making it to the end of a very long day (fallout new vegas daemons) herculeaneffort September 11 2011, 14:13:14 UTC

Lawrence's daemon never settles. He's heard of it happening once or twice over the years; tales of ghouls with shifting daemons, of tribes far north with leaders who fight alongside bears made of steel and shifting skin. Courier never settles so he takes on her name as his job description; the only stability he can provide is none whatsoever and they're both fine with that. She can pass, most of the time. She likes being a bear, she likes being a dog, she even likes being a Cazador, which he finds a little gross. He takes the job transporting the chip because it's easy money and he gets to do it alone. He walks everywhere (got a motorbike working once almost by mistake and that ended with a broken arm and a permanently crooked nose) and with Courier as a companion he can at least say he's never alone.

All of the wondering and wandering is rendered completely useless the day he gets shot in the head. It hurts before the shot, of course. Benny has a fucking gecko daemon and it has it's jaws around Courier's neck (she's a dog today and can't shift with that fucker latched on) and it hurts like he's being punched in the gut by a -bear-. He's saying something about luck and money and Lawrence can't hear him, can't breathe. Benny raises his gun and the gecko snaps Courier's neck and he's falling.

Getting a face full of Goodsprings dirt is probably what saves his life.

the rest is here
