One of the reasons I want to build is that the majority of newer homes are built by the big builders and have real poor lasting power. I'd get a good builder and probably want it done in stone.

The three times your pay this is the idea that you multiply your salary by 3 and that is the value of the house you should go for.

Well where the hell can I find a house for $150k? The small crappy ones in a bad neighborhood that need work cost about $250k around here. That is my confusion, the guys who earn like 35-40k and have $300 homes.

But whatever. I'm sure time will solve the problem.

If I can find someone to sign a rental agreement for at least 2 years, I can get a house in a year or two...if not, then more like 4-8 years more.
