New Year's Eve

After making my novel of a wedding post, I realized I haven't posted about our New Year's Eve extravaganza. So wipe your chops and hang on.

As I mentioned in a few posts a while back, I was able to seriously hook everyone up for New Year's, included myself. In case you missed it, we partied in the Howard Stern Production office on the corner of 43rd and Broadway. For those less familiar with New York, that's the dead center of Times Square and right where they drop the ball. We were on the 29th floor which was eye level with the 2005 part of the ball. The view was spectacular! But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

There were 12 of us all together and we were off doing different things that day so we decided to meet up with everyone else since they were already in the city. Makes sense. I wanted everyone to meet in front of my main office on 42nd street between 5th and 6th but for whatever reason (I think they thought the streets were closed), the group said they couldn't make it there so we met somewhere on the West side of Times Square. Let me repeat that, we ended up on the West Side of Times Square and the office building is on the east side. This was a problem because there were about a million people already in Times Square. We tried talking to the Police at the road block on 43rd Street but he said they couldn't even escort us through Times Square. The only streets that were open to get across was 59th. And we had to enter from the East Side. After trying for a while and finally getting a hold of my office contact to see if there was anything we could do from there we gave up on that route because there was no way we were going to try to get to 59th. There was a sea of people where we were as it was. So we tried to hail a cab for a minute or two and then decided that wasn't happening. At this point I was getting really aggravated and just told everyone to follow me. We went down into the subway which was right there and made our way to the shuttle train over to the 42nd street station. From there we hopped on the 7 to 5th Ave. This brought us up right where we needed to be without fighting through a crowd of people and in only 15 minutes. Perfect! From that point we had no problems getting through the Police barricades with our passes.

Once we got up into the office we took some time to put our alcohol down and relax a little since not many people were there yet. We watched the football game, enjoyed the view, and just started drinking. That's basically what we did all night. Drank! More and more people kept showing up but it never got so crowded that you couldn't walk around which was great. It was pretty funny because out of all the people that were there, no more than a handful of them actually worked for E!. By far the best new year's celebration yet. It's going to be hard to top this one. After watching the ball drop we stuck around for a little while longer and continued to drink until the pledge's friend Brian was so trashed that we thought he might have to go to the hospital. Luckily he didn't, he was just incredibly drunk. So Alex was dealing with him, making sure he's ok and trying to get him up so we can get him out of there when Jac started to get sick too! And then Erin got sick. It was hilarious because the two of them were vomiting into trash cans right next to each other.

Needless to say the trip home was fun. Thank GOD it wasn't cold outside. Me and Jersey (nickname for another one of the pledge's friends but her name escapes me right now) practically carried Jac home while Alex and Jason practically carried Brian home. As we are waiting on the train for it to leave, this guy comes in handing out the 2005 jester hats that everyone down on the streets of Times Square were wearing. This other couple felt so sorry for Brian they gave him one of the hats. It was hilarious. By this time I was sober for the most part but decided I couldn't wait to get home to pee, so when we stopped at Queensboro Plaza to switch to the N I took care of my business down at the end of the platform. Once we got off the train at Ditmars we were pretty much home free...or so we thought. I had one of the jester hats on and Alex had the other one on so that the drunk people wouldn't puke all over them. Well, on the walk from the train station to my apartment there were these two guys arguing (I didn't realize it at the time but they had obviously just been in a fight because the one closest to us was all bloody). The bloody guy was also drunk and looking to pick a fight because he grabbed both Alex and my hat and threw them to the ground. I went to pick mine up and was getting ready to fight this guy who probably would have beaten the shit out of me for this stupid hat. I guess I wasn't as sober as I thought. Luckily, I had my hat and walked away and the other guy was keeping the bloody guy from doing anything else. Jason told me the next day that he saw our "scuffle" and was running full speed back to where we were ready to tackle this guy if necessary. I'm glad it didn't come to that.

It was definitely a night to remember though. I had a blast and I'm pretty sure everyone else did too. I felt really good about being able to get everyone into such an awesome place for New Year's and am glad I was able to do it. I did feel really bad for the guys at the office that had to clean up the mess though because the office was TRASHED after the night was over. I talked to the guy that set it all up and he said that they went through about 5 bottles of febreeze! Good Times!

Anyway, that's my New Year's story. If you were there and have any pictures let me know. I have a few that I need to scan in, so as soon as I get my new printer/scanner I'll try to do that.
